Field Trips and Events

Rock climbing at Stelly's- Thursday, May 15- B3 will be enjoying the fabulous rock climbing facilities at Stelly's High School on May 15. We will leave the school at 11:30 and return at 2:00 (climbing is 12:10-1:30). We will need parent volunteer drivers for this event. The cost for this activity is 4.50. Look for the permission form later in April.

Camp Qwanoes- Tuesday, May 20- B3 and B5 will be venturing to Camp Qwanoes in Crofton for a day filled with outdoor activities. Students will enjoy 3 of four activities throughout the day, Screamer, Skyscraper, Skystation or archery. We will be taking a bus up for this event. The bus leaves at 8:30 sharp and students must bring a bag lunch. The "Tuck shop" will be open at lunch but contains only snacks at a small charge. Students should wear layers as the morning can be quite cool and the afternoon much warmer. We go rain or shine!!! Cost for this field trip is 70.00. Notices went home March 28 and must be returned by April 15!!!

Healthy Choices Presentation- Island Sexual Health- May 29- We will have a guest speaker coming into our classes to give a presentation for our Healthy Choices curriculum. The focus of the discussion will be a brief review of anatomy, puberty changes and a discussion of healthy relationships. Look for a letter to come home in May with further details.

Students will be expected to read a book of their choice for 30 minutes every day. To support the building of home libraries and encourage this activity here are some suggestions on locating excellent books:
  • get a library card: online catalogues can search and hold books
  • trade with friends and families for books they recommend
  • check out the school library
  • Scholastic orders will be done monthly by Mrs. Lancaster
  • check out books from the classroom library
  • library book sales done by Friends of the Library are 4 times a year (September): buy books for as little as a 1.00
Once you find a book series, author or genre you like research other titles with help from your teacher and school librarian. Nothing's better than getting lost in the "Reading Zone"!!!

The school is attempting to go completely green and get rid of our garbage cans. Large recycle bins are set up in the classroom and the hallways. We encourage students to use reusable containers for lunches and eliminate prepackaged foods as much as possible. Even small contributions add up!!!!
